To carry out a feasibility study concerning the use of Canadian 3D scanning technologies for recording South Africa’s rock art sites (painting and engraving)

3D DATA UTILIZATION

  • Preserving heritage sites through 3D digital recording
  • Analysing colors captured by the 3D scanner
  • Analysing painted shapes and material and tools used by prehistoric artists
  • Comparing painted shapes of several sites in order to follow the path of prehistoric artists across the country
  • Setting up a Virtual Reality presentation integrating a historical narrative concept
  • Planning protection and maintenance of heritage sites
  • Integrating the digital site into the mapping reference system and the National Topographic database

REMARKS
This project is the result of joint efforts, involving both the Canadian and South African governments, to help preserve world heritage sites.
